2024 Maui Gluten-Free Eats Update: Navigating the Island’s Culinary Landscape
Many moons ago, amidst the enchanting backdrop of Maui’s tropical paradise, my husband and I were—let’s just say—suckered joyfully persuaded into investing in a timeshare in Ka’anapali. While pregnancy hormones may have played a small role in our decision-making, it ultimately solidified our annual tradition of exploring the island’s culinary delights. It was a delightful “mistake” that brought us back year after year, offering more than just a place to stay—it gifted us a cherished family tradition.
And you know what? I’m incredibly glad we did. Our annual visits to Maui have become the highlight of our year. The children eagerly anticipate days spent splashing in the ocean, exploring the resort’s various pools, and simply unwinding in this idyllic setting. It’s not just the resort itself that holds our affection; it’s the profound joy of a week-long family bonding vacation in paradise, complemented by an utterly satisfying food scene. Each visit allows us to deepen our connection with the island and its vibrant flavors.

A key feature of our timeshare units is a fully equipped kitchen, which we leverage to prepare all our breakfasts and a good number of our lunches. This allows us flexibility and control over our gluten-free meals, ensuring a healthy start to each day. The remaining meals, however, are an exciting culinary quest, meticulously researched and carefully selected by me. It’s my mission to find the most delicious and accommodating gluten-free options Maui has to offer, making every dining experience a memorable one.

While Maui has been our annual sanctuary, our last trip in June 2023 was tinged with sadness, as we observed the initial impacts of the devastating fires that swept through the island. Many of our cherished local favorites and beloved establishments were tragically affected and have since shuttered their doors. The resilience of the Maui community, however, is truly inspiring.
We returned to our timeshare in November 2024, eager to support the local community and discover new gluten-free havens. This trip provided the perfect opportunity to thoroughly update this guide with my latest recommendations, ensuring that fellow gluten-free travelers can navigate Maui’s evolving culinary landscape with confidence and joy. This guide reflects the current dining scene, highlighting new gems and confirming the enduring quality of long-standing favorites.

Embracing Flexibility: My Gluten-Free Approach to Vacation Dining
As we’ve often discussed, particularly in Episode 7 of our podcast, “Travelling While Paleo,” maintaining a strict 100% Paleo diet during vacation isn’t always my primary goal. It’s crucial to recognize that a healthy, happy life includes making mindful choices about food without undue stress, especially when you’re on a relaxing getaway. For Ollie and me, our non-negotiable dietary requirement is to remain strictly gluten-free. This commitment to avoiding gluten is the one constant I insist on when we dine out, regardless of our destination.
Note for Gluten-Sensitive & Celiac Travelers: While the restaurants I recommend below are celebrated for their gluten-free menus and highly accommodating staff who are well-versed in gluten intolerance, it’s vital to understand that most are not 100% dedicated gluten-free facilities. If you have Celiac disease or severe gluten sensitivity, please exercise caution. Cross-contamination risks, though often minimized by diligent staff, can exist in shared kitchens. Always communicate your dietary needs clearly and inquire about preparation methods to ensure a safe dining experience.
I frequently share our Maui culinary adventures on my Instagram account using the hashtag #NomNomEatsMaui, but I felt it was time to compile our latest discoveries and enduring favorites into one comprehensive guide. [A note on location: many of my recommendations are concentrated on the west side of the island—including Lahaina, Ka’anapali, and Kapalua—simply because that’s where our timeshare is located. After years of extensive exploration across all parts of Maui, we’ve found ourselves comfortably settling into the rhythm of staying closer to our “home base,” making it easier to enjoy the resort’s amenities and nearby dining options.]

So, without further ado, let’s dive into my meticulously curated list of the best places to shop for gluten-free groceries and savor incredible gluten-free meals on Maui! This guide is designed to empower you to enjoy a worry-free and delicious vacation, ensuring your dietary needs are met with ease and exceptional flavor.
Mastering Gluten-Free Grocery Shopping in Maui
Having a kitchen in our timeshare is a game-changer, allowing us to prepare most of our breakfasts and lunches. This not only offers peace of mind regarding gluten-free safety but also provides a budget-friendly way to enjoy fresh, healthy meals. Here are my go-to grocery stores on Maui where we stock up on all our healthy provisions, ensuring a delicious and worry-free culinary experience throughout our stay.
Grocery Stores in Kahului: Your First Stop from the Airport
Kahului, being home to Maui’s main airport (OGG), is often our first and last stop for stocking up. It’s incredibly convenient to grab essentials right after landing or before heading home, making the most of our travel time.
Whole Foods Market
The Whole Foods Market in Kahului is a veritable haven for gluten-free shoppers. This expansive store is consistently well-stocked with a vast array of specialty gluten-free products, from artisan breads and pastas to a dedicated section of gluten-free snacks, desserts, and even prepared foods. While it’s a convenient 30-minute drive from our west-side timeshare, we strategically make it our primary shopping destination upon arrival and before departure from the airport. The sheer variety ensures we can find everything we need for our week-long stay.

You’ll find all the standard Whole Foods offerings, but it’s worth noting that mainland-sourced items often carry a higher price tag due to shipping. My personal recommendation? Seek out products from local Hawaiian artisans and producers. Not only are they often more affordable, but they also offer unique flavors and ingredients you won’t find elsewhere, supporting the local economy. Look for local kombuchas, fresh island produce, and specialty gluten-free treats. If you’re purchasing refrigerated items for your journey to your accommodation, don’t forget to grab some of the complimentary ice available near the entrance – a lifesaver for keeping groceries cool. Whole Foods also shines as an excellent spot to pick up healthy, diverse gluten-free meals for your flight home, ensuring everyone in the family finds something they enjoy.
Down To Earth Organic & Natural
Just a few blocks from Whole Foods, you’ll discover Down To Earth Organic & Natural, a vegetarian organic market that, despite its focus, is a treasure trove for gluten-free shoppers. While it features an abundance of plant-based and soy products, don’t let that deter you. Dig a little deeper, and you’ll uncover a fantastic selection of fresh, organic produce that’s naturally gluten-free, along with a dedicated aisle for packaged gluten-free goodies, from crackers to baking mixes. Their bulk section can also be a great place for nuts, seeds, and dried fruits, perfect for gluten-free snacking.

Costco
While not a mandatory stop on every trip, Costco in Kahului proves invaluable for larger families or extended stays, especially for those with significant gluten-free needs. Its proximity to the airport makes it an ideal pitstop before heading to your accommodation. With a Costco membership, you can stock up on bulk organic eggs, a wide variety of organic produce, and even local specialties like Kalua pig. Beyond groceries, it’s a fantastic place to find essentials like snorkel gear, a ukulele for local tunes, and a range of local macadamia nuts and chocolates for gifts. For an idea of the types of gluten-free bulk items available, you can reference an older post detailing our Costco finds in Kauai, which offers a similar experience.
Walmart
For those who prefer not to buy in bulk but still seek cost-effective options for their gluten-free needs, the Walmart near the Kahului airport is an excellent choice. This superstore carries a vast selection of groceries, including many recognizable gluten-free brands and products at competitive prices. It’s a reliable spot to find pantry staples, fresh produce, and a surprising variety of gluten-free specific items on the shelves, making it a convenient and budget-friendly alternative to the specialized organic markets.
Grocery Shopping in Lahaina: Stocking Up on the West Side
For those staying on the west side of Maui, closer to Lahaina, these stores offer convenient options for replenishing your gluten-free pantry without a long drive to Kahului.
Farmer’s Market Maui
It is with a heavy heart that I must report that Farmer’s Market Maui, our cherished “hippy-dippy” vegetarian market in Honokowai—a go-to for healthy snacks and unique treats on the west side—is currently closed. Their website indicates they are actively seeking a new westside location, a prospect we eagerly await. In the meantime, their Kihei location remains open, offering a similar selection of fresh, organic produce and gluten-free friendly items. This market was always a fantastic spot for picking up local fruit, fresh kombucha, and other wholesome, naturally gluten-free goods.

Foodland Farms Lahaina
Foodland Farms is a highly reliable local supermarket chain that consistently delivers a wide array of groceries, perfectly blending local Hawaiian produce with mainland staples. This is a fantastic place to find fresh, seasonal island ingredients for your gluten-free cooking, alongside a good selection of packaged gluten-free goods. For a unique and affordable souvenir for friends and family back home, consider their zip-top reusable grocery bags. Adorned with charming cartoon spam musubi, they are not only adorable but also incredibly useful, making for a memorable and practical gift from Maui.
Safeway
While I don’t frequently shop at Safeway back home, the expansive Lahaina location proved to be a pleasant surprise and a valuable resource for gluten-free shopping. Open 24 hours, it offers unparalleled convenience. For a long time, I wrongly assumed it wouldn’t cater much to specialized dietary needs, but I was completely mistaken. This Safeway boasts an impressive selection of organic produce, high-quality Applegate Farms meats, locally sourced kombucha, and a diverse range of other local Hawaiian products. It’s an excellent option for finding both everyday essentials and some specialty gluten-free items, especially during off-hours.
Top Gluten-Free Take-Out Options in Maui
Sometimes, after a long day of exploring Maui’s beautiful beaches or hiking its lush trails, the last thing you want to do is cook. Thankfully, Maui offers an excellent selection of gluten-free friendly take-out options, ensuring you can enjoy a delicious and safe meal on the go or back at your accommodation. Here are my top picks for convenient and tasty gluten-free take-out across the island.
Kahului: Convenient Gluten-Free Bites Near OGG Airport
For immediate gratification upon arrival or a last delicious bite before departure, Kahului has some fantastic gluten-free take-out spots just minutes from the airport.
Tin Roof Maui
Celebrated Top Chef fan favorite Sheldon Simeon’s casual lunch spot, Tin Roof Maui, is an essential stop for us. It’s often the very first place we grab food after our plane lands on the island, and equally ideal for a flavorful take-out meal to enjoy on your flight home. While the menu isn’t entirely gluten-free, the standout Garlic Shrimp can be expertly prepared to be gluten-free. I highly recommend customizing your order by adding a perfectly cooked 6-minute egg and opting for a refreshing kale salad instead of rice. To avoid waiting in line, which can get quite long, definitely place your order online in advance!
Broth Cafe at Alive & Well
Tucked away inside Alive & Well, proudly “Maui’s only family-owned and operated health food store,” lies the charming Broth Cafe. This inviting counter serves an array of organic juices, nourishing broths, satisfying ramen, trendy avocado toast, and particularly hearty paleo-friendly bowls that are naturally gluten-free. If you’re seeking a healthy, delicious, and easily portable meal for your flight home, this is an exceptional stop on your way to OGG. I personally enjoyed the lemongrass chicken bowl, customized with a 6-minute egg and no grains, which made for a perfect and wholesome airplane meal.
Fork and Salad
If your travel plans have you flying out on a Sunday, when Tin Roof Maui and Broth Cafe might be closed, Fork and Salad becomes your premier destination for a delicious, healthy, and perfectly portable gluten-free meal. Conveniently located just a few minutes from the Kahului airport, this casual salad bar allows you to place an online order that’s ready for quick pickup right before you drop off your rental car. My go-to is the Super Salad 2.0, enhanced with my choice of protein, offering a fresh and satisfying gluten-free option for your journey.
Kihei: South Maui’s Gluten-Free Take-Out Treasures
While my main focus is often West Maui, a drive to Kihei for truly exceptional gluten-free options is always worth it.
Cool Cat Cafe
We were genuinely saddened by the closure of the Lahaina location due to the recent fires, but our spirits are always lifted by the prospect of driving down to Kihei for Cool Cat Cafe’s consistently delicious food! If your cravings lean towards mouthwatering burgers served on gluten-free buns, accompanied by truly safe and crispy French fries in a vibrant, casual diner setting, then this spot is an absolute must-visit. What truly sets Cool Cat Cafe apart for gluten-free diners, especially those with sensitivities, is their dedicated potato-only fryer. This means Ollie, who adores French fries but often can’t enjoy them due to cross-contamination concerns at other establishments, can gobble them up with absolute abandon here. And a little secret: their gluten-free fish tacos are also incredibly flavorful and highly recommended!

Lahaina: West Maui’s Best Gluten-Free Take-Out
Lahaina, our home base on the west side, boasts an impressive array of gluten-free take-out spots that make dining convenient and delicious.
Miss Arepa
A true gem discovered during our 2023 trip, Miss Arepa has quickly become a weekly (sometimes every-other-day!) staple for us. This vibrant Venezuelan eatery is a dream come true for gluten-free diners: it’s 100% gluten-free, offering complete peace of mind! The arepas themselves are generously sized and bursting with flavor, though my personal favorites extend to their savory beef empanadas, perfectly crispy yucca fries, and the unique patacon sandwich (a plantain sandwich, for those unfamiliar). With limited indoor and outdoor seating, it’s highly advisable to order ahead and take your delicious goodies to a nearby park or back to your condo to savor them.

Choice Juice Bar
For a refreshing, healthy, and energizing gluten-free option, look no further than Choice Juice Bar. This is the ultimate destination if you’re craving fresh, vibrant salads, fruit-packed smoothies, or hearty acai bowls. (And remember, my Paleo fanatics: “vegan” is not a dirty word when it comes to whole, unprocessed foods!) Henry, for instance, is absolutely enamored with their “Chronic” smoothie, a truly invigorating mint chip shake crafted with fresh mint, hazelnuts, banana, coconut meat, vitamineral greens, hemp protein, macadamia nut milk, and a touch of cacao nibs. It’s a powerhouse of nutrition and flavor.

Furthermore, if you’ve yet to experience the delight of an acai bowl, this is unequivocally the place to try your first! Their bowls are generously topped with fresh fruit, granola (check for GF if necessary), and other wholesome additions. While there’s a smaller, more compact location in the Whaler’s Village mall, for the full menu and selection, I recommend visiting their main Lahaina outpost.

Moku Roots
When those vegetable cravings hit hard on Maui, Moku Roots is your unparalleled destination. This innovative eatery specializes in delicious vegan fare, and the best part for gluten-free diners? Almost every item on their menu can be expertly prepared to be gluten-free! I particularly reveled in their Vegan Cobb salad, a creative and satisfying dish featuring a delightful house-made macadamia nut ranch dressing and surprisingly flavorful coconut bacon. Beyond the incredible food, Moku Roots is also commendable for its commitment to sustainability; all take-out orders are thoughtfully served in reusable stainless steel containers, secured with a refundable $10 deposit, actively promoting a zero-waste philosophy.

The Fish Market
Without fail, we make it a point to order take-out from The Fish Market at least once during every Maui visit, enjoying our fresh catch back in the comfort of our condo. My consistent go-to order is a vibrant, fresh salad generously topped with perfectly grilled fish or shrimp, always remembering to request “hold the croutons.” Their kalua pork and grilled fish tacos are also incredibly flavorful and can easily be made gluten-free by opting for corn tortillas or a salad base. The focus here is on incredibly fresh, high-quality seafood, prepared simply and deliciously, making it an ideal choice for a wholesome gluten-free meal.
Sansei
While Sansei (which we’ll explore further below for dine-in options) is renowned for its vibrant on-site dining experience, we’ve recently discovered the absolute brilliance of ordering gluten-free sushi take-out. A couple of years ago, we decided to try it, and frankly, we may never go back to dining in for sushi again! The online ordering process is incredibly streamlined and user-friendly, allowing you to bypass the often-crazy lines that form at the door for on-site dining. This convenient option provides a peaceful way to enjoy their exceptional sushi and other Japanese delights, all from the comfort of your temporary home.

Dining Out: Lahaina’s Premier Gluten-Free Restaurants
Lahaina and its surrounding areas offer some of Maui’s most memorable dining experiences, and thankfully, many establishments are highly accommodating to gluten-free diners. From upscale oceanfront settings to casual, family-friendly spots, here are my top recommendations for enjoying a superb gluten-free meal in West Maui.
Honu and Mala Ocean Tavern
It feels almost impossible to discuss Honu without immediately mentioning its equally esteemed neighbor, Mala Ocean Tavern. While distinct in their culinary focus, these two exceptional Westside restaurants are situated side-by-side at Mala Wharf (a moment of silence for the departed Frida’s Mexican Beach House!), and both boast truly spectacular oceanside views that are simply unparalleled. They even share a convenient parking lot, adding to their appeal. The consistent excellence in food quality and service at both establishments makes them perennial favorites, and our choice of visit often hinges on our specific cravings for that day.
Honu stands out as the ideal destination when our family is craving pristine seafood or delicious pizza. They thoughtfully offer fantastic gluten-free pizza options, perfect for the kids (or adults!), alongside an array of exquisite seafood dishes for the grown-ups. I am particularly fond of their gluten-free ahi bruschetta, a fresh and flavorful starter that perfectly embodies the essence of island dining.

Beyond the pizza and bruschetta, Honu truly excels with its fresh fish preparations, particularly the “dore style,” which showcases the natural flavors of the ocean with simple yet elegant cooking. The knowledgeable staff are always happy to guide you through their extensive gluten-free options.

Mala Ocean Tavern, on the other hand, is our preferred choice when we’re in the mood for sophisticated Pacific-Rim inspired cuisine. The menu is brimming with delightful flavors, and crucially, offers an abundance of clearly marked gluten-free options. The servers here are exceptionally knowledgeable about dietary restrictions, making for a confident and enjoyable dining experience. However, a small but important note for fry lovers: the French fries at Mala are prepared in a shared fryer, meaning they are not entirely gluten-free due to potential cross-contamination.

An unwavering tradition for us is to enjoy our very last meal on Maui—a delightful brunch—at Mala before heading to the airport. It’s the perfect farewell to the island’s culinary scene. My personal brunch favorite is the gluten-free avocado toast, generously topped with perfectly fried eggs and a side of crispy bacon. (A word of caution for those with strict gluten-free needs: there is a potential for cross-contamination with the hash browns, so always confirm with your server.)

While there is also a Mala location in Wailea, we’ve never ventured to try it. With these two outstanding restaurants (Honu and Mala) offering such exceptional experiences so conveniently close to where we stay on the west side, there’s simply no compelling reason to drive all the way to Wailea!
Merriman’s Kapalua
For those seeking to truly splurge on an unforgettable dining experience complete with absolutely breathtaking oceanfront views, a reservation at Merriman’s Kapalua is an absolute must. The sunsets witnessed from this renowned establishment are nothing short of spectacular, painting the sky with vibrant hues that perfectly complement the exquisite cuisine. I highly recommend booking a table for around 5:00 PM; this timing significantly increases your chances of securing one of their coveted oceanside tables, offering an unobstructed panorama of the Pacific. It’s a truly magical setting for a special evening.

On past Maui excursions, we’ve dined at other similarly-priced, highly acclaimed destination restaurants such as Mama’s Fish House and Lahaina Grill. However, Merriman’s consistently stands out as my ultimate favorite “spendy” restaurant. The level of service and the culinary expertise are truly exceptional, but what elevates it for gluten-free diners is the staff’s unparalleled knowledge. The servers are incredibly well-informed about every dish’s ingredients and are adept at guiding you through the menu, confidently highlighting what is naturally gluten-free and what can be expertly modified. Almost everything can be adapted to be gluten-free, from their fresh catches to perfectly seared steaks, ensuring a luxurious and worry-free dining experience.

Monkeypod Kitchen
Having first experienced the vibrant atmosphere and delicious food at Monkeypod Kitchen in Kihei years ago, we were absolutely thrilled when a new location opened up at Whaler’s Village, conveniently close to our accommodation in Ka’anapali. This beachside location is simply stunning, offering a lively ambiance that perfectly complements their imaginative tropical drinks. The food itself is consistently tasty, providing a relaxed yet upscale dining experience. They operate on a no-reservation policy, so the best strategy is to put your name in, then take a leisurely stroll along the beautiful beach boardwalk for an hour or so until you receive a text message notifying you that your table is ready. The wait is always worth it for the views, the cocktails, and the food.
While the menu doesn’t boast a vast number of gluten-free entrees, the fish tacos at Monkeypod Kitchen are an absolute revelation and consistently hit the spot. They are prepared with fresh ingredients and can be easily customized to be gluten-free, offering a perfect blend of flavor and satisfaction in a beautiful setting. The staff are generally well-versed in dietary needs and can guide you to other suitable options as well.

Sansei
Sansei, though lacking a direct ocean view and subtly tucked away on a golf course in Kapalua, remains a hugely popular Japanese dining destination for a very good reason: the sushi and sashimi are incredibly fresh and exceptionally tasty. Moreover, what sets Sansei apart for gluten-free diners is the surprisingly extensive array of gluten-free options available, far more than you might expect from a traditional Japanese restaurant. We particularly savor the Nobu-style miso butterfish, a rich and flaky delight, the perfectly roasted Japanese eggplant, the succulent hamachi kama (grilled yellowtail collar), and for meat lovers, their impressive 22-ounce ribeye. Crucially, many of their sushi rolls are either naturally gluten-free or can be thoughtfully adapted to be so, making it a fantastic choice for those craving authentic Japanese flavors without the gluten.

Sea House
Sea House, an endearing old-school brunch spot nestled directly on the picturesque Napili Beach, offers truly gorgeous ocean views that, for some reason, initially lowered my expectations of the food quality. However, I was absolutely delighted to be pleasantly surprised by their dedicated gluten-free menu, which presented a wide variety of tempting choices. This meant that despite the captivating scenery, the culinary experience was far from an afterthought, making it a perfect spot for a relaxed and delicious gluten-free brunch.

During my visit, I chose the sweet potato egg frittata, a truly inspired dish topped with a perfectly spiced hollandaise sauce. I must confess, it was not merely good; it was, in a word, epic. The flavors were perfectly balanced, the texture delightful, and it provided a truly satisfying and memorable gluten-free brunch experience that easily matched the stunning visual backdrop.

Star Noodle
Although it has been many years since my last visit to Star Noodle, primarily due to my aversion to waiting for a table, the consistent praise from many of you assures me that the quality of their food remains exceptionally high. For this reason, I’m confidently keeping it on this essential gluten-free dining list. Some of our long-standing favorite gluten-free dishes include the uniquely flavorful Filipino Bacon and Eggs, the earthy Roasted Mushrooms, the delicate Vietnamese Crepe, and the highly popular Brussels Sprouts (always remember to ask for the sauce on the side to ensure it’s gluten-free). The Ahi Avo is also a crowd-pleaser; when ordering, be sure to specifically request a substitution of tamari for the regular shoyu if you need to adhere to a strict gluten-free diet. This small request makes a big difference in ensuring a safe meal.
Feeling inspired to recreate some of Star Noodle’s magic at home? You’re in luck! I’ve developed a Star Noodle-inspired copycat paleo recipe for Ahi Avo that brings those delicious island flavors right to your kitchen.
Important note for first-time visitors or those returning after a hiatus: Star Noodle recently relocated to the old Aloha Mixed Plate location on Front Street in Lahaina. This new spot offers a fresh ambiance while maintaining the culinary excellence that made it famous.

Indulging Your Sweet Tooth: Gluten-Free Treats & Sweets on Maui
No vacation is complete without a few sweet indulgences, and Maui doesn’t disappoint for gluten-free dessert lovers. From interactive breakfast experiences to classic Hawaiian cool-downs, here are my top picks for treats and sweets that cater to a gluten-free diet.
Slappy Cakes
For a breakfast experience that’s as entertaining as it is delicious, head to Slappy Cakes where you can make your very own gluten-free pancakes right on a griddle built into your table! While it might not claim the title of the “best breakfast I’ve ever had,” the sheer joy and excitement it brings to the kids are priceless. They get an enormous kick out of cooking their own flapjacks into all sorts of crazy shapes, customizing them with an extensive array of toppings. For the adults, you can easily balance out the pancake fun with savory egg scrambles and crispy bacon, ensuring a hearty and gluten-free start to your day while the children happily engage in their culinary creations. It’s truly a unique and memorable family activity on Maui.

Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice
When it comes to experiencing a truly authentic and proper Hawaiian shave ice, Ululani’s is the undisputed champion. This isn’t just any shave ice; it’s a meticulously crafted culinary art form, featuring incredibly fine ice that absorbs their vibrant, natural fruit syrups perfectly. Prepare yourself for an explosion of flavor and don’t blame me if your mouth temporarily transforms into an unnatural shade of rainbow afterwards – it’s all part of the fun! Their extensive menu of flavors means there’s something for everyone, and it’s a naturally gluten-free treat that cools you down perfectly on a warm Maui day.
Our kids’ perennial favorite flavor is the “Tiger’s Blood,” a sweet and tangy concoction. On a humorous note, it would undoubtedly be a Paleo-approved treat if it were, in fact, actual tiger’s blood! This playful thought only adds to the charm of indulging in this iconic Hawaiian dessert, a must-try for any visitor to Maui.

Over the years, our family has explored countless dining establishments across the entirety of Maui, from upscale culinary destinations like Pineapple Grill and Banyan Tree in Kapalua to local institutions such as Sam Sato’s in Wailuku and Bev Gannon’s Hali’imaile General Store. While many offered memorable meals, the establishments meticulously detailed above consistently remain my top recommendations for a reliably delicious and confidently gluten-free experience. (Yes, I have dined at Mama’s Fish House a couple of times, but personally, I don’t believe it justifies the long drive or the price point compared to other phenomenal options.)
However, the culinary landscape of Maui is ever-evolving, and my quest for exceptional gluten-free finds is ongoing. If you’ve discovered any new or off-the-beaten-path gluten-free friendly places that you believe I absolutely must try, please don’t hesitate to share your recommendations in the comments below! We’ll be returning to our beloved timeshare next year, and the year after that, and the year after that… so I’m always eager to explore new additions to our gluten-free Maui repertoire.
